Hindalco produces copper cathodes andcontinuous cast copper rods. The copper cathodes are available under the brandnames - Birla Copper and Birla Copper II. Birla Copper cathodes with 99.99 percent copper purity levels are square shaped and are produced using the MountISA electro-refining process. The continuous cast copper rods have an excellentsurface finish, and are suitable for processing to enamelled, coated and platedwires. The rods are available in diameters of 8, 11, 12.5, 16 and 19 mm.

Birla Copper also produces preciousmetals, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, di-ammonium phospate and otherphosphoric fertilisers and phospho gypsum.

Gold and silver possess an affinityto copper ore and are found in certain quantities in the copper concentratesupplies. Hindalco pays for the gold and silver content based on the prevailinginternational bullion market prices and other factors. The precious metals arethen extracted at the refinery following copper refining, to extract 99.9 percent pure gold, silver and selenium. The residue contains traces of platinumand palladium, which is sold as platinum group metal mix, commonly known asPGM.
